Some of our current cocktail favourites

(Fancy learning more about cocktails?  Check out our Bath group masterclass page)

Whiskey/Amaretto Sour

One of the oldest styles of cocktails, a classic sour combines spirit, citrus, and sugar. Smooth and velvety with a nice sour bite, the Sour cocktail has been a crowd-pleasing favourite for over a century and a half (no-one knows exactly when it was created, or by whom, but it first appeared in print in the 1860’s!) A perfect vehicle for the whiskey to shine through, another popular option is the Amaretto Sour, which swaps out the whiskey for amaretto for a slightly sweeter (but no less tasty) drink.

Margarita

The Margarita, or ‘daisy flower’ in Spanish, is one of the most well-known cocktails in existence. Combining blanco tequila made from 100% blue agave, sharp lime, and sweet orange liqueur, it hits all the right notes. Here at TDR we double down on the quintessential tequila taste by adding agave syrup, which ties all the ingredients together perfectly into a great-tasting, must-be-tried drink. Only one question remains - salt, or no salt?

Cosmopolitan

This simple yet delicious ‘Sex and the City’ classic was quite possibly the most popular cocktail in America during the 1990’s, and is still many people’s favourite today. Instantly recognisable by its beautiful pale pink hue, it was created in the 1980’s when flavoured vodkas were just finding an audience, and today it’s an absolute must-know for aspiring cocktail bartenders the world over.

Elderflower Cosmo

An exciting riff on the classic Cosmopolitan, the Elderflower Cosmo swaps the orange liqueur for elderflower and the cranberry juice for apple to create an extremely refreshing, and just as (if not more) tasty summery version. Guaranteed to satisfy.

Moscow Mule/Dark ‘n’ Stormy

The Moscow Mule is a vodka based cocktail that’s retained its popularity for well over 60 years. Deliciously refreshing, with fiery ginger beer and tangy lime, it’s traditionally served in an iconic beaten copper mug that is instantly recognisable the world over. Easy to make and perfect on a warm day, it’s a staple cocktail on any menu, and an ideal drink to whip up when you’re pressed for time and want to impress.

Swap the tin for a hiball glass, sub the vodka out for dark rum (traditionally Gosling’s, but we use Kraken black spiced for a bit of extra bite) and you have the Dark ‘n’ Stormy.

Mojito

Nothing says ‘summer’ like sipping a freshly made, ice-cold mojito from a chilled glass. The iconic rum-based cocktail, originating from Cuba, is one of the most popular alcoholic drinks in the world, and between the fresh mint scent, the sharpness of the lime, and the sweet sugar, we can see why. It’s important when making a mojito to use the freshest ingredients possible, which is why we hand-pick our mint leaves from our in-house plants every day, giving you the most gorgeous, aromatic drink possible. For extra authenticity, Cuban rum is a must!

Daiquiri (classic, strawberry or raspberry)

The Daiquiri has a rich and storied history supposedly stretching back as far as the 1890’s, and is known to have tickled the palates of several notable figures, for example Ernest Hemingway and JFK. It’s a simple drink, but that simplicity has spawned countless variations - Hemingway preferred his without sugar, JFK liked his with a few drops of falernum (or so the stories go - who’s really to say nowadays!) The rum-based drink, originally from Cuba, is - in its purest form - the perfect mix of rum, lime, and sugar. The exact quantities of each that go into the ‘perfect’ daiquiri aren’t set in stone, so whilst it’s one of the easiest drinks to make, it’s also one of the hardest to get right.

We use traditional Cuban rum for its delicious sweetness, freshly squeezed lime juice, and demerara syrup. Want your daiquiri fruity? Try subbing out the demerara for strawberry or raspberry syrup.

Pornstar Martini

Let’s face it. You love a Pornstar. We love a Pornstar. Everybody loves a Pornstar. There’s something about the sweet blend of passionfruit and vanilla that just screams ‘DRINK ME’. Ignoring for a moment the fact that the drink bares not even a passing resemblance to a classic Martini, this instantly recognisable tipple has come a long way since its invention in London in the early 2000’s (literally - it’s now found all over the world!), and whilst there are a lot of bad versions out there, when done right, the Pornstar Martini is a thing of beauty. It’s also the cause of many a tipsy argument - do you shot the sparkling wine before, after, or tip it into the drink to give it some extra sparkle?

Whatever you decide, one thing we can all agree on is that you should avoid pre-mixed Pornstar Martinis at all costs - this is a drink that demands the freshest ingredients you can find… which is why we hand squeeze our lime juice and blend our own passion fruit puree ready for you to use and enjoy every day.

Espresso Martini

‘Make me something that’ll wake me up and f**k me up’...

… with these words, the Espresso Martini was born. The story, true or not, goes along these lines: a ‘top model’ gave those instructions to a London bartender, who eagerly obliged, mixing espresso with vodka and coffee liqueur. Since its creation in the 1980’s, it has become extremely well-known, and as with any legendary drink has been the subject of many tweaks and iterations (here at TDR, for example, we make a ‘Flat White Martini’). But nothing quite beats the original, and as with all our cocktails, we aim to make it the best we possibly can. That means freshly ground espresso, chilled in the freezer (no cold-brew here!), delicious vanilla vodka, and top quality coffee liqueur, as well as our own demerara syrup made in-house. If you prefer it sweeter, add more syrup, if you like the bitterness of the coffee to come through then take some out and add in more espresso. And if you prefer the ‘f**k me up’ side of it to the ‘wake me up’.... Well, a bit of extra vodka never hurt anyone, right?

Long Island Iced Tea

Don’t be fooled - the only thing this classic cocktail has in common with an iced tea is the ice. Possibly a byproduct of the prohibition era as an easy way to disguise the booze, the Long Island Iced Tea gained popularity in the 1970’s, and though it is sometimes looked down upon by ‘serious’ bartenders (whatever that means!), with the right measurements and the use of super-fresh citrus, this drink definitely holds its own against more ‘refined’ cocktails. The mixture of 4 different spirits, orange liqueur, lemon juice, sugar and coca-cola may sound a bit messy, but at its heart the Long Island is tasty, easy to make, and (as it was probably meant to be all along) strong!

Woo Woo/Sex On The Beach

The timeless Woo Woo and Sex on The Beach are two very similar drinks that show that one ingredient can make huge amount of difference to the look and taste of a cocktail. To a base of peach schnapps and vodka, add cranberry juice (for a Woo Woo) or layer orange juice and cranberry juice (for the SoTB) to create the drink you want.

The Woo Woo is a tad more elegant, whereas the Sex on The Beach is slightly flashier, but one thing they both have in common (other than most of their ingredients) is that they’re both refreshing, delicious, and super easy to make.

French Martini

Debuting in the 1980’s, the French Martini takes its name from the inclusion of Chambord black raspberry liqueur, a French liqueur similar to Creme de Cassis which dates back to the 17th century. The Chambord combines with pineapple juice to give the drink a deliciously fruity character and it’s signature colour, and pineapple vodka adds an extra kick. When made properly, the pineapple juice - shaken hard - gives the drink a foamy layer on top and a smooth, creamy texture that’s impossible not to love.
